Minor Surgery

WHAT'S THE OPERATION FOR?

Minor surgery generally entails to remove a skin lesions such as Lipoma, Mole, Cyst, Wart or even a Skin tag. The procedure may be intended because the above lesions may have shown some recent changes either in the physical appearance of them or a new symptom has recently developed. The intended benefit may relates to cosmetic concerns or even physical or mental concerns. By and large removing a skin lesion or subcutaneous lesion is usually a very quick and straightforward procedure.

These operations are usually carried out under a local anaesthetic injections or sometimes even a numbing cream as appropriate, this means that the affected skin area will be completely numb and you will be fully awake during the procedures.

At consultation I will discuss the intended benefits and the risks involved in having the operations for your skin lesion/s and you will also be given opportunity to discuss anything alternative that may be available at other centres/ hospitals.

ABOUT THE OPERATION

The exact technique employed to remove a said lesion would depend upon number of factors and the operating surgeon would plan and execute the task as appropriate. However most skin lesions are generally removed using a surgical scalpel and the wound is closed using stitches.

Tissue samples removed during the procedure are generally sent for histopathological examinations to local path lab for tissue analysis. This generally takes about 2 weeks and copies of such reports are routinely forwarded to to your own GP. The histopathological reports are automatically passed on to your GP and any serious unknown diagnosis is promptly communicated through our robust system and these do not ever slip through the net.

Following operation one will generally have a visible scar, but over the time these resultant scars will eventually improve. Some scars are bigger then the others and this depends upon various factors such as wound infection, skin overlying the joints or mobile area of the body.

Having a minor skin lesion removed is generally a safe procedure. However, all operations carry some risks as well as benefits.

Sebaceous cyst: It is a common benign condition which present with cystic(fluid filled) swelling usually under the skin common area affected are face, neck back, scalp, scrotum etc. Sometimes the cyst gets infected and causes redness, pain and even discharge of pus. Once it is infected the treatment is to have antibiotics and if it has form an abscess(collection of Pus) sometimes it might needs incision and drainage(lancing). Best treatment for sebaceous cyst is to operate and take it out. Which is a routine process and usually done under Local Anaesthesia. In order for us to operate there should not be any infection and there should be swelling palpable.

Lipoma: Lipoma is a benign tumor of Fat tissue which presents with swelling underneath the skin, this swelling is usually painless, soft to touch and movable. Common areas are neck, back, abdomen & arms. Some people have multiple Lipoma.Exact cause of having Lipoma is not known for certain. The treatment for Lipoma is to have it removed which is usually done under Local anaesthesia.

Skin tags: These are small benign condition which project outside your skin and could cause irritation and embarrassment. I do Radio-surgery for the Skin tags and send tissue for histology. Results are excellent with minimal scarring.

Mole: Moles are pigmented lesion on the skin. Some pigmented moles could be cancerous hence I advised to check your mole specially when it has changed colour, shape, size or the look of it. I excise the mole under local Anaesthesia and always send them for histology.

Wart: Warts are benign condition presents with unsightly lesion they are usually caused by Virus. there are various treatment available for warts. I perform Radio-surgery for the wart with a good results.

Private Medical

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PRIVATE MEDICAL?

Although medical assessments are available on the NHS, a regular GP appointment is rarely enough time to discuss your concerns related to specific job roles or situations and in many cases, you will need to pay to receive a medical report for a job role. A referral on the NHS for further tests can also take many weeks to come through and often with medicals; a quick turnaround is vital to appease employers.

NOTE:

  • Some people who are visiting the UK might not be entitle for NHS treatment.

  • Some people prefer to be treated privately at a little cost.

  • Some people would like to have a second GP opinion.

I can arrange for a private GP consultation at mutual agreement of time.

Joint Injection

Joint injections and trigger point injection are given usually to inflamed joint surfaces or in some case at the painful spot. These injection contains mixture of Local anaesthesia with Corticosteroids which eleviates the pain. The pain relief following these interventions can last up to 12 weeks but varies from person to person.

Various joints which are commonly suitable for injection are Knee joint, Shoulder joint, Small joints of hands and feet. The other type of injection that I carry out is trigger point injection or injection in the Bursa (lining of a joint) for example  Tennis elbow, Golfer's elbow, Trochanteric bursitis, Trigger Finger etc.

Tennis Elbow: It is a condition where you feel pain on the outer side of your elbow joint. This is caused by overuse of your elbow. Initial treatment for this condition is taking some Anti-inflammatory medication. If these medication does not work then there is an option of injecting Steroids around your elbow which relief your pain. This injection sometimes needs to be repeated after sometimes.

Golfer's Elbow: This is a condition which causes pain around the inner side of your elbow. This is caused by overuse of your elbow and wrist. this is commonly treated with rest, Anti-inflammatory medication and if these method fails to respond then Local injection of steroids helps the pain. Sometimes we need to repeat the injection.

Plantar Fasciitis: This is one of the common cause of heal pain. Plantar fascia is a ligaments which connect your heal bone to your toes and f they get strain, irritated or inflamed it causes pain specially on walking. Treatment for this condition is rest, padding in shoes and Anti-inflammatory medication. If these methods fails then there is a role of Steroids injection in your sole. Sometimes with chronic irritation the plantar fascia forms a lump which is called Plantar Fibroma which usually does not respond to injection and that will require operation by a foot specialist.

Thochanteric Bursitis: This is a condition where you feel pain over the outer aspect of your hip. it is caused by irritation of a bursa which is situated there. Normally it is treated by rest and Anti-Inflammatory medication. If it fails to respond then Local steroids injection is the option of treatment.

PPP ( Pearly Penile Papules) Treatment

Pearly penile papules (PPP) also called hirsulties cornaoe glandis or Hirsutoid Papillomas is a common condition typically presents with tiny white or creamy papules around the corona of the glans penis. Exact incidence is difficult to predict but supposed to involve about 1 in every 3 teenager boys and adult male. It typically affect young boys but can present in adulthood. These lesions are completely harmless and should not be confused with any kind of STI (Sexually transmitted infection).

It causes undue stress and anxiety and psychological disturbance to the patients. It does not require treatment for medical reason as they are harmless. If someone is unduly stressed because of the PPP they can have treatment for cosmetic reason.Treatment for PPP is not available under NHS as it is considered as cosmetic treatment.

If patients would like this to be treated the Grandstanded treatment for PPP is Radiosurgery. There are few OTC product available in market which claims good results. I prefer to treat with Hafrecator which has 100 % success rate. I offer this treatment at my clinic. it affects about affecting about As a taxi driver, you have an incredibly responsible job, which involves safely transporting the public, so, it is vital that you are physically fit for the role for yourself and also for others.

Treatment process:- I put numbing cream to the area which needs treatment and all the papules are treated individually by radiosurgery

Aesthetic Treatment

I can offer some Aesthetic treatment like Anti-Wrinkle injections and Dermal fillers. These treatment are done using topical Anaesthesia which are usually pain free. You will be able to get your unwanted wrinkles off your face and these treatment could last for few months.

This is a relatively new technique, where small amount of blood will be withdrawn from you and this blood sample will be centrifuged in a special kit which will separate your blood into thick cellular part and clear plasma part. This plasma part will be injected on your face specially under your eyes, around your lips or along your neck area which will help to form collagen and your skin will look lot younger. this procedure is done under local anaesthesia and almost painless.

Hay Fever Injection
